A favourite of the pros and very popular in Europe, Omaha Hold Em is quite possibly the game of the future.  While not as well-favoured by the public as its beloved cousin Texas Hold Em, Omaha is an exciting and challenging game that attracts more pro and amateur poker players alike with each passing day.  And righfully so.  If you have not jumped on the Omaha bandwagon yet, allow your friendly Online Poker Tutor to offer some introductory poker lessons regarding Omaha Hold Em, or Omaha High, so that you can get familiar with this exciting game and the correct Internet Poker Strategy and start mixing it up with other Omaha enthusiasts in your favourite internet Poker room!!! 

The key difference between Texas Hold Em and Omaha Hold Em poker preflop play is that, in Omaha, a player gets four hole cards, so it becomes vital that one play coordinated preflop hands that can work together to create complete hands like straights or flushes.  In Omaha poker preflop, these types of hands are much more desirable than big pairs because they give a player more outs to make a winning hand.  This is an especially important Preflop consideration for two reasons: with every one getting four cards preflop, or four hole cards, many more cards are in play in the hands of an opponent because so much of the deck is used, giving every Flop many more ways to hit a rival's holdings and overtake an overpair; and also, unlike Texas Hold Em, in Omaha Hold Em a player must use two of his hole cards and three community, or Board, cards to make his hand, so fluke straights and flushes are no longer possible.  As a result of these two factors, your Omaha poker preflop hand requirements are very different from those in Texas Hold Em.  While poker preflop hands containing big pairs can be viable in Omaha, especially in good games where players are playing too many hands and going too far with them, they are much weaker and more vulnerable than poker preflop hands containing high Suited connectors.  With the high pairs, one can only hope that either no one has anything playable in concert with the flop, or that they make top set to catch up.  In reality, these are not great opportunities to make money playing online poker since you are going against the odds.  It is pretty unlikely that the Ace you need to make a set is even still in the deck, and if you happen to start with a set of Aces, you must remember that you can only use two of them, so your hand has a single out at best.  Many Amateur poker players new to Omaha, particularly those converted from Texas Hold Em, forget this fact and misplay preflop hands simply because of this slight rules difference. One of  the best preflop hands you can be dealt in Omaha poker preflop is As-Kh-Qs-10h.  Despite having no pairs, this hand is exceptional in Omaha poker preflop because so many powerful hands can be made using some combination of these cards.  A Nut Flush is a definite possibility, as is a King high flush, as well as several straights and powerful two pair combinations.  Armed with so many strong possible ways to potentially connect with the flop, this hand is an ideal poker preflop holding in Omaha.  One thing that needs to be mentioned, however, is that post-flop play in Omaha should be somewhat textbook, with much less bluffing than Texas Hold Em requires.  Typically, a flop either hits one player very hard, or two to three players with similar and strong holdings, or no one at all.  The last case is usually the most prevalent opportunity to Bluff in poker of the Omaha variety.  Just remember not to be afraid to let go and get away from a smallish hand in Omaha High, since it is so much more likely that someone has a much stronger poker preflop hand that also connected solidly with the flop, so proceed with caution with a baby set or bottom two pair.

Another appealing element of Omaha Hold Em is that, compared to Texas Hold Em, good players have a more significant edge over the poor donks and fish, who tend to play weak preflop hands.  This is true mainly because the "Schooling Effect" is greatly diminished.  Schooling effect is a term used to describe the condition that exists when several bad players enter a Pot with a good player holding a premium poker preflop hand but put the better player at a disadvantage because of their combined number of outs to beat his hand make him an underdog.  One reason that the schooling effect is not as great is because a hand like bottom two pair is not a strong hand in Omaha.  This is a significant contrast between the two popular Hold Em varieties.  Players who are playing uncoordinated poker preflop hands and Rag infested poker preflop hands are much less likely to overtake a smart player armed with a premium hold em poker preflop hand in Omaha than they are in Texas Hold Em, where any two pair is often strong enough to take down a pot.  For these reasons, Omaha offers good players a fantastic chance to capitalize on weak foes and make money playing online poker.  If you have not played Omaha, you should start right away.  It is an incredible and exciting variation of Hold Em, and now is the time to get in on the Action!!!
