Brief History of the Evolution of Online Poker

The online poker boom, fueled by television coverage of the WPT and WSOP, has reeled in many new amateur poker enthusiasts, creating a new era in the long history of card games.  In 1998, the first online card room was introduced, Planet Poker, which was the only online casino (to my knowledge) for a brief window of time.  Shortly thereafter, many online venues were launched, relegating Planet Poker to the memories of its earliest patrons.  As time has gone on, further fueled by an amateur poker player named Chris Moneymaker winning it all in 2003, today’s popular sites such as Bodog, Full Tilt, and PokerStars have grown in traffic like an internet wildfire.  In fact, televised poker events and online poker have mutually benefited one another, each attracting new amateur poker players aspiring to win at poker tournaments and capture the huge money prizes offered to the swelling fields of amateur poker players trying to improve their games and learn to play poker professionally.  In fact, many upstart amateur turned champion players of today began online, going on to win at poker tournaments of epic proportions.  Moneymaker, Raymer, and, most recently, Yang have all been amateur poker players who succeeded in their quest to win at poker greatest tournament event, the WSOP!!!  Their success inspires more amateur poker players each day to study and practice winning poker strategy and poker lessons to elevate their game.  Flush
They flock to the many exciting and popular online poker rooms where a table playing almost any game is always available!!!  Despite legislation in the United States that makes it more difficult for players to deposit and withdraw money to online poker sites,  the industry continues to thrive globally online on the world wide web!!!  Countless players, including your personal online poker tutor himself, make money playing online poker and the prosperous business of online poker does not appear to fading in the least.  There are probably several reasons for this, including the convenience of playing from home via the internet and the ready availability of a variety of popular poker games at all hours of the day and night, making poker accessible to all amateur poker players whenever they can play.  Free poker tournaments known as freerolls have probably also contributed to the wildfire growth of widely popular sites like Bodog and Full Tilt, since these types of tournaments allow amateur poker players to play for free and have a chance to win a real money prize!!!  Some of these free events even offer a free entry to major tournaments like the WPT and WSOP!!!  For more on free poker tournaments, check out our Freeroll Finder online tool and our free poker strategy lessons article about playing freerolls, by your online poker tutor.

Attractive deposit bonus incentives like those offered by Bodog and Full Tilt, as well as the excellent rakeback offers which all pay the players and are great ways to make money playing online poker, have also contributed to the widespread popularity of online poker!!!
